Located in Michigan with an extrusion facility at Grand Rapids, they have significant experience in the high-performance thermoplastics industry with a goal is to make the most innovative materials available. Overview

3DXTECH was running on a WooCommerce platform and the site did not have a clear customer focus (Novice or Expert user). 3DXTECH also had another website (3DTriton) which they wanted to merge with 3DXTECH site laying the foundation for growth. Some of the key requirements were ease of management and lower TCO for the sites while having a seamless connection to Acumatica Cloud ERP – the ERP system in use at 3DXTECH. Further, 3DXTECH wanted the new site to reduce the customer drop-off points and increase conversions, improve site rankings, and sales.

With multiple sites that were operating in silos and not integrated with the back-end ERP system, 3DXTECH was relying on numerous manual processes that consumed valuable time, resources, and increased the likelihood of costly errors.

B2B Capabilities

With a significant amount of business coming from B2B customers, features such as customer specific products and pricing, payment terms, ability to simplify workflows in the quoting and approval process, easy re-ordering, etc. that were critical to business success were missing.

Buyer Journeys

With the company supporting 3 different types of customers (Industrial Consumers, Prosumers or Knowledgeable Consumers, Regular Consumer or Hobbyists), it is essential to ensure that the buyer journey is simple and clear for each of the personas. With each type of buyer requiring a different level of capability, UX has to be carefully crafted.

Commerce

Shopify Plus was the optimal platform for 3DXTECH’s business requirements. It provided an easy to manage interface with support for both B2B and B2C while laying the foundation for needed expansion as the business grows. Additionally, Shopify Plus allowed 3DXTECH to keep their costs relatively constant as they grow their business. The integration between Shopify Plus and Acumatica provides a seamless sync of entities (Customers, Products, Orders) across eCommerce and the back-end system.

ERP

Acumatica is the operational ERP in use at 3DXTECH, and the company relies on Acumatica to manage financials, manufacturing (planning and production), distribution including sales and purchase order management, along with integrated Warehouse Management system. Acumatica’s in-built Shopify Connector was utilized to seamlessly sync products, inventory availability/quantity, customers, orders, and shipments between the ERP and Shopify.

Outcomes

Kensium was able to launch a new Shopify Plus based website for 3DXTECH supporting both B2C and B2B buyer journeys, integrated with Acumatica in under 3 months. This new site was significantly faster (by 54%), streamlined fulfillment processes, reduced order processing efforts, improved delivery times, and increased customer satisfaction in a very short time after launching the new site.

With 3DXTech.com now on Shopify and having time to reflect on this project, I wanted to thank everyone for their hard work on launch.

  To launch on August 14th [2024], from our first project kick off call on June 6 [2024] and our first project status call on June 10 [2024], is nothing short of extraordinary. 

  This is basically 2 months of non-stop intense work from data migration from WooCommerce / Wordpress, reconfiguring data from Acumatica and getting it loaded onto Shopify, configuring the data to meet our expectations and non-stop testing. In previous lives, ecommerce re-platforms has taken me at least 6 months.  

 I know it's been an intense journey the past couple of months but the challenge ahead is just beginning as we need to continue to optimize the platform to enable a best-in-class consumer journey and purchasing experience.
