Acumatica 2021R1 Support Sunsetting

Acumatica announced the release of 2022R2 on September 15th, providing new features and functions designed to increase usability and operations. With that said, as of January 2023, Acumatica 2021R1 will no longer be supported. It is critical to ensure your instance can be updated with security patches and necessary changes to your Acumatica instance.

Risks of Operating A Retired Version of Acumatica

Because 2021R1 will no longer be supported, there are risks associated with not upgrading. Below are just a few examples of the risks to your Acumatica instance if you don't upgrade:

  1. When an Acumatica version is retired, so is the code used to support your instance. As a result, our developers don't have access to correct any issues necessary.
  2. When Microsoft or other vendors release updates, issues are introduced that may negatively impact Acumatica2021R1. This impact may cause system downtime, impacting your ability to manage your operations.
  3. All Acumatica tests are supported, and in-maintenance versions protect your software against all Operating System and framework updates. Retired Acumatica Versions are NOT tested, increasing risk to your Acumatica instance.

What Does Acumatica Do If I Don't Upgrade?

If you choose not to upgrade, your retired version is moved to its own environment, and all updates are stopped. To cover the cost of migrating to the new environment, SaaS users are charged a 25% premium. However, retired versions are vulnerable to security breaches, OS errors, and more.

What If I Don't Want To Upgrade?

If you do not want to upgrade and your system is moved to an individual environment, you can change to a PCS license allowing you to host your version on-premises or at an external web host. However, the vulnerability risk remains the same and could still require an emergency upgrade. When this happens, you risk downtime and the inability to install security patches or any updates.
